Meet Amanda
Writer. Artist. Comedian. Bartender.
I like to call myself these things.
WRITING, EDITING & COMMUNICATIONS
Amanda is a writer and communications professional with a decade of experience across multiple industries.
Currently, Amanda is a content strategist for WebMD. She utilizes experience across different media platforms, research skills, and data analysis to continuously improve WebMD’s content inventory.
Previously, Amanda was an integral part of the Georgia Municipal Association’s communications team. She coordinated social media strategy, served as editor and publisher of Georgia’s Cities magazine, managed communications planning and execution for two annual conferences, composed and distributed GMA newsletters, and contributed to other legislative and policy communications needs. Amanda also helped bridge the gap between the tenure of two department heads, shouldering much of the interim work.
Over a 10-year career in newspapers and digital news, Amanda was a staff reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Greenville News, and has been published on Cosmopolitan.com; across the USA TODAY Network in print and online; and in The State, the Post and Courier, the Free Times, and the Charleston City Paper. Her coverage has included:
COVID-19's impact on local governments and schools
The 2020 Georgia legislative session,
The 2020 Democratic presidential primary,
Gwinnett County MARTA referenda
The 2018 and 2020 races for Georgia's 7th Congressional district
Super Bowl LIII
The 2016 South Carolina presidential primary
While still an undergraduate, she worked part-time as a features and news reporter for The State (Columbia, S.C.), where she helped launch and manage the weekly features publication Go Columbia. At the University of South Carolina, Amanda was editor-in-chief of The Daily Gamecock, copy chief of Garnet & Black magazine, and earned a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in women's and gender studies.

FIBER ART
Amanda is self-taught in crochet, macrame and hand embroidery. She is especially prolific in crochet, having made dozens of blankets, hats, mittens, sweaters, pillows, socks and other items. While these media are often pigeonholed and devalued as women’s handicrafts, Amanda sees them as important forms of folk art.
Amanda occasionally makes items available for sale, and is always open to commission proposals.
COMEDY
Amanda is trained in improv and has completed all levels of training at Dad’s Garage Theatre in Atlanta. She does not regularly perform, but can be seen approximately once a year in the comedy PowerPoint competition Soapbox. She won Soapbox No. 5 with a data analysis of her dating habits from 2021-2022.
BARTENDING
Amanda is a Cicerone Certified Beer Server and has significant experience with wine, craft cocktails, and craft beer. She has developed specialty cocktails for seasonal menus, created a prep and batching routine for a weekly high-volume event, and has served private events ranging from a 15-person Bible study to a 300-person charity benefit. She loves helping someone find a new, unexpected beverage and broadening their horizons.
